Children don’t generally pick the best occasions to have emotional meltdowns, just simply ask any parent.
Justin Baldoni recently shared a photo of him, his father, and his own little girl as well as the important lessons he learned from his father about such moments.
Baldoni, most popular for his part on the show “Jane the Virgin,” shared a photo his wife, Emily, took while the family was shopping at the neighborhood Whole Foods
In it, Baldoni, alongside his dad, gazes down at his little girl, Maiya.
She was crying and on the floor wailing, while the two men looked quiet, practically entertained, yet not in a deriding way.
They are unquestionably not embarrassed in spite of a crowd of individuals around them in the store.
When Baldoni posted the photo on his Facebook, he recalled the way his father used to act during the actor’s own tantrums, and how it helped shape him into the man he is today.
“My dad always let me feel what I needed to feel, even if it was in public and embarrassing,” he wrote.
“The photo, which Baldoni calls one of his favorites ever, shows the advice in action.”
In any case, being the ideal parent does not mean your child never blows up, disappointed, or befuddled.
Children are normally going to experience a ton of feelings as they experience things and circumstances they can’t comprehend.
What’s important is we don’t teach the children to hide those feelings or push them down for fear of being judged — that kind of emotion-management can come back to haunt us as adults.
Working through our emotions, or simply breaking down in front of many, is a significant expertise to master.
