A recent survey finds that about half of the US population wants to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as President.
On a poll published by Piplsay on April 6, 46% of Americans would support The Rock’s presidential run.
This came after Dwayne Johnson, 48, dropped hints about making a Presidential bid in 2024, ‘if that’s what the people wanted’.
Speaking with USA Today in February, Johnson said:
“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted,” the actor and retired wrestler told USA Today. “Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer.”
“That would be up to the people,” Johnson continued. “So I would wait, and I would listen, I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”
The online survey was carried out among 30,138 American adults between April 2-4. It found that about 63% of poll participants believed that Hollywood actors can make good politicians if they have ‘the right attitude and support staff’.
On the other hand, different opinions on celebrities turning to politics slightly differ between generations. 35% of Millennials and Gen X believes that actors can make good politicians compared with 30% of Gen Z.
In total, it was found that 81% of respondents believed that the opinions and endorsements of Hollywood stars could wield influence on the public.
The Rock was not the only choice for a future celebrity president.
Will Smith was also found to be the most popular presidential choice among Millennials and Gen Zers, with Angelina Jolie and Oprah Winfrey being the top female choices, the poll finds.
Whether he or he will not one day take his chance for the White House, The Washington Post reported that he might be a possible candidate.
In 2017, The Rock told GQ magazine that he thought it was a ‘real possibility’, saying that ‘the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country’.
Johnson told Vanity Fair in 2018 that he indeed considered running for presidential office last year but later on decided against it.
“It’s a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills,” he said.
