A Congressman belonging to the Democratic party accused Donald Trump of inciting the Capitol riots that took place on January 6th.
According to media reports, Trump will now face a federal lawsuit that was issued on Tuesday regarding the deadly insurrection. In the same way, the lawsuit also talked about how the former president of the US conspired alongside his lawyer as well as certain extremist groups. This was all done to prevent the Senate from carrying out its duties of certifying the election results, where Trump lost against Joe Biden.
The lawsuit comes forward from Mississippi’s Representative, Bennie Thompson who is the chairman of the House of Homeland Security Committee. Moreover, experts claim the new lawsuit is a part of the expected course of events that took place on January 6th, being the first filed by a senior member of Congress.
Reports also confirmed how the new lawsuit seeks a series of unspecified punitive as well as compensatory damages.
In the case, the defendant’s names include Rudy Giuliani who was the former president’s personal lawyer. In the same way, other names to come forward include the Proud Boys as well as the Oath Keepers. These are extremist organizations who had certain members imposed with charges by the US Justice Department for taking part in the deadly siege.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s lawyers have denied all claims regarding the ex-president inciting the MAGA riots. On the other hand, one of Trump’s advisers refused to comment on the topic immediately regarding the lawsuit that came into the plan on Tuesday.
The lawsuit was filed in Washington DC, in the US federal court.
It comes under the Reconstruction-era law which many term the ‘Ku Klux Klan Act.’ It comes just days after former president Trump was acquitted for his charges in the Senate Impeachment Trial.
This was based upon allegations regarding how he was the one to begin the riots that killed 5 people and left dozens injured.
