One of the greatest players of all time, Diego Maradona, passed away at the age of 60.
The legendary football player suffered from cardiac arrest at his Buenos Aires residence.
Maradona was treated for alcohol dependency in November and also had a brain blood clot surgery the same month. Diego Maradona led his team to win the championship of the 1986 World Cup; he scored a memorable goal that year in the quarter-final against England.People still appreciate and remember the goal as the “Hand of God” goal.
The former Argentina captain and the midfielder was one of the most loved sports celebrities.“Maradona, you will live in our hearts, always! It is indeed a somber moment for all of us. Thank you for gracing the world with your existence. You will be missed,” the Argentine Football Association wrote. Maradona represented Argentina in four world cups and scored 34 goals during the 91 matches he played for Argentina.
Maradona started his career with Argentinos Juniors and later also played as an outstanding player in Sevilla, Newell’s Old Boys, and Boca Juniors.
He joined Napoli and Barcelona during his club career and won two series A titles with the Italian side.
Later in 1991, a 15-months ban was improvised against him after he tested positive for the drugs. He remained a controversial player during the second half of his career as he became a cocaine addict.The former Football captain retired from professional football at the age of 37 in 1997. The deceased captain also provides his services as the national team’s head coach from 2008-2010. He left in 2010 after the team got defeated by Germany in the quarter-final.
