As the Derek Chauvin murder trial kicked off today, the prosecutor ripped into the case with an explosive start this morning.
The high-profile murder case began with a series of explosive statements by the prosecutor’s side on Monday morning in Minneapolis. Here, the trial’s attorney, Jerry Blackwell, began by arguing how Derek Chauvin betrayed his badge by all means. And that’s when the attorney spoke of how the cop crushed every bit of life out of George Floyd.
Next, the attorney decided to play the bystander video which showcased the terrifying moment on how the incident actually took place. Here, Chauvin brutally kneels down on George Floyd’s neck as he cries, I cannot breathe”.
On that note, Blackwell told the court while looking at Chauvin and the jury, “you can believe your eyes… that it is homicide, it is murder”.
Next, Blackwell took the time to emphasize how Chauvin did not move an inch or try to get up from kneeling on Floyd. Instead, he chose to stay put for a haunting 9 minute and 29 second period, making sure that Floyd was dead by the end of it all.
As a part of the opening statement of the defense side, Derek Chauvin’s lawyer, Eric Nelson stepped in to speak about the mountain load of evidence for the high-profile case. In regards to that, he added, “this case appears to be clear about more than a mere 9 minutes and 29 seconds”.
In the same way, Nelson put emphasis on the jury to look at Chauvin’s mindset, as well as his fellow cops present at the scene. Moreover, he asserted how the cops felt a sense of threat from both Floyd as well as the crowd that began growing in great numbers around them.
Derek Chauvin has received charges for both second and third-degree murder, as well as manslaughter and death of George Floyd, an incident that took place on May 25th.
