A former police officer from Minneapolis claims that the recent verdict of the Derek Chauvin trial is an absolute tragedy.
The ex-officer mentioned how the guilty verdict could potentially pave the way of sparking a revolutionary trend of sending officers to prison.
Speaking to the Insider recently, the ex-officer whose condition remains anonymous stated how he was shocked and surprised at the verdict that was given out by the jury last week. Referring to the entire event as a tragedy, he went on to add how the jury was under plenty of pressure to try and make things right for the George Floyd murder trial.
The officer reportedly worked for the Minneapolis state police department for nearly 30 years, confirmed media reports. In the same way, it was noted how he had handed in his resignation notice during the start of the Derek Chauvin murder trial too.
Moreover, he also spoke to Insider about how he was appalled by how little time the jury took to reach the final verdict. It appeared as if they already had their minds made.
Without a doubt, spending less than 24 hours in deliberations is big news and doesn’t usually happen when such a high-profile case was involved. But the verdict surely resulted in the majority of the country to indulge in celebrations as they felt justice had been served.
“When the jury came back that quick, I knew for sure that Chauvin was screwed. I just knew it. I have never seen anything like this in all of my years of work, a jury coming back so quickly to make such serious charges. Never,” he exclaimed.
On the other hand, the officer also went about alleging how ex co-workers from the police department were shattered and very disappointed with how the trial ended. One former colleague also mentioned how Chauvin was a ‘sacrificial lamb.’
