Derek Chauvin Faces ‘Additional’ Murder Charge In Trial For George Floyd’s Death


Hennepin County judge just reinstated third-degree murder counts on former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

The news came as a shocker for many who believed the case would just move forward with two counts of charges. However, it now appears that Chauvin will face a total of three charges which include second-degree unintentional murder, second-degree manslaughter, and third-degree murder too. While he already pleaded not guilty to the first two, the new reinstated charge paves way for a new path to Derek Chauvin’s conviction.

The case is currently being covered and watched by so many Americans, which first began on Tuesday when the jury selection was finalized.

Minnesota’s attorney boldly mentioned how the 3rd-degree murder charge, with the felony and murder charges, all reflect the great weight of all of the allegations against Derek Chauvin. She also spoke about how pleased she was with the new news and how her team looks forward to presenting the 3 charges to the jury soon.

On the other hand, attorneys Antonio Romanucci, as well as Ben Crump, released a public statement recently where they spoke about the great feelings of gratitude when the judge reinstated the new charge.

The statement spoke about how the whole murder trial is very painful for the family who is in search of closure to the case. It also mentioned how so many were grateful that all sorts of judicial avenues were getting explored and how the trial would move forward too.

Derek Chauvin received charges for the third-degree murder, a few days after George Floyd’s death. However, reports soon confirmed how Judge Peter Cahill from the Hennepin County District dismissed the murder count in the month of October, claiming it didn’t apply to the case.

On the other hand, one appeals court ruling in the month of February paving the way for the reinstatement of the charge against Chauvin, allowing the state to file another appeal for Cahill’s ruling.
