For many people, priorities have changed during the lockdown, and it seems people have been more concerned about keeping their pantries, and freezers stocked up than maintaining personal hygiene.
According to the recent figures, ice cream sales have dramatically increased but deodorant sales have gone down because, obviously, nothing beats scoffing a tub of ice cream while your eyes water at the smell of your own body odor.
Unilever, a consumer goods company, found that its personal care item sales have declined, with the company pointing at the lockdown for the flopped sales. While the company saw a decline in sales for its brands such as Dove and Axel deodorant, other brands like Ben and Jerry’s and Magnum have seen an increase.
Earlier this year, Unilever’s ice cream brands saw a 15% increase in sales followed by a 26% increase between April and June. As people are probably comfort-eating their way through the pandemic.
In a CNN report, Unilever CEO Alan Jope said:
“Consumers have eaten more soups, used more meal kits, and accompanied their meals with mayonnaise and ice cream as dessert.”
Basically, everyone has been making themselves three-course meals every night because clearly, people haven’t been able to get them anywhere else.
While many of us enjoy rolling out of bed five minutes before starting the work and looking like a cast from The Walking Dead most days, it’s probably time to start investing in personal hygiene products once again as lockdown measures started to ease in many places.
