Denzel Washington is going viral after defending the country’s police force, despite the Black Lives Matter Movement.
According to media reports, the star Academy Award winner claimed how he had so much respect for the cops while taking a dig at those who protest against the nation’s police force. And that clearly targets the Black Lives Matter movement too.
Meanwhile, the 66-year-old mentioned how he has had an up-close and personal experience when it came to looking at what cops do and the true value of police work. And it’s all thanks to his many cameos that entailed him playing a law enforcement officer, throughout several roles in his career.
The Malcolm X star mentioned, “I have the utmost respect for what they do, for what our soldiers do.” In addition, he talked about a great many sacrifices they make for their lives and their families.
But what shocked many is his bold stance, where he declared how he didn’t have any care or respect for those who put the police force down.
“If it wasn’t for the cops, we certainly wouldn’t have or enjoy the freedom that we have today,” he exclaimed.
Denzel Washington’s latest film is a thriller called “The Little Things.” And that marks the 13th time that he has played a major role as a leading law enforcement officer.
On that note, the actor also recalled a ride that he once made alongside a police officer, as he prepared for his role as a cop that became a prosecutor. This movie was from the year 1991, titled Ricochet.
Speaking to Yahoo, he mentioned how he went on a call with a police sergeant.
And that was one experience that clarified so many things. He talked about an incident that was severe but thanks to the officer remaining calm, it was diffused in no time. That incident taught him so much about the police force and what they deal with, on a day-to-day basis.
The news comes at a time when the BLM protests are at a peak with many questioning the star’s stance over the entire situation, with calls by demonstrators to defund the police.
