Two sports cars were involved in a car crash in Switzerland causing a traffic hold-up and $4 million worth of damages.
A Bugatti Chiron, Porsche 911 Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon and a motor home were all driving through the Gotthard Pass in the Swiss Alps, and the motor home was moving slowly up the mountain pass causing a delay in moving traffic.
Apparently, the driver of the Chiron, which was towards the back of the pack behind the Porsche, decided to overtake at almost the same time as the Porsche moved out in front of the Chiron to pass at the same time.
The two cars collided, and then the Porsche hit the Mercedes while the Bugatti hit the motor home.
A local news publication reported that the total damage of the accident is north of $4 million.
While no one lost their lives during the unfortunate incident, the driver of the Mercedes was rushed to the hospital for serious injuries.
The Chiron had its grill, front bumper and hood busted but the Porsche sustained the most damage.
Reports say that the Gotthard Pass was closed for three hours as authorities clean up the mess.
According to TopGear, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet alone costs around $130,000 while the Bugatti Chiron alone costs about $3 million.
Switzerland’s Gotthard Pass is world-famous for its curves, tunnels, and exceptional scenery as it climbs and descends through the Swiss Alps.
It has also been the mecca for anyone seeking a thrilling drive, but also sees plenty of camper of traffic in the summer months, leading to some frustration from other drivers, and occasionally, bad decisions.
Fortunately, everyone involved in this incident is expected to make a full recovery, but it also serves as a reminder to all of us that exercising a bit of patience behind the wheel is never a bad thing.
