A grand jury in New York dismissed all the charges against Buffalo cops who brutally shoved an elderly protester.
According to media reports, the jury from Western New York felt the assault charges weren’t justified for the case of police officers pushing an elderly protester to the ground. The tragic incident took place in June during a protest held in honor of George Floyd.
According to media reports, the Buffalo Police Department mentioned how officers Robert McCabe and Aaron Torgalski faced major felony charges for pushing down 75-year-old Martin Gugino. The shocking incident left the elderly man with a fractured skull, leading him to bleed through his head.
However, now, the local media outlets confirmed the news how all of those charges stand dismissed. Moreover, the jury panel confirmed the news after carrying out a local media press conference on Thursday. The meeting was looked down upon by Erie County’s District Attorney, John Flynn.
Meanwhile, Flynn defended the felony charges against all the officers by releasing the following statement, ‘I apologize for nothing,’ he exclaimed. “Gugino did not deserve to be shoved,” he added.
In the same way, he talked about how the incident’s video footage from the push, clearly revealed that the officers took part in the horrendous crime. However, the attorney did feel that the elderly citizen needed to be arrested for breaking the city’s curfew hours.
Gugino, the victim of the incident, spent 30 days in the hospital, as he was received from a major head injury. Reports mentioned how the elderly citizen fractured open his skull, leading to great injury to his brain. This was all due to the altercation with officers, who brutally pushed him to the ground.
Critics following the case mentioned condemned the activity of the officers, hoping justice would be delivered soon. However, with the jury voting in favor of the Buffalo cops, it certainly doesn’t seem likely.
