The current socio-political commotion in the US has blown away civilians, media, and government as the protestors have united against racism and slavery.
Recent news unveiled the overthrow of Albert Pike’s statue: a confederate general, on Juneteenth in Washington DC.
Albert Pike was a prominent personality of the US. He was an American author, poet, public speaker, and an active member of the Freemasons. He was appointed as a senior officer of the Confederate state army. His body is entombed at the DC headquarters of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
According to the protestors, this is said to be a symbolistic attempt to mark the cessation of slavery in the US.
The 11-foot (3.4 meters) statue was chained as it fell to the ground. They also set the statue on fire while chanting “No justice, no peace, no racist police.”
Videos posted on social media and eye witness accounts affirm the presence of police.
But they did not intervene.
US president Donald Trump expressed his anger towards police ascendancy saying they are a ‘disgrace’ to the country. His tweet was a strong gust of emotions as he issued a warrant against the policemen.“They should be immediately arrested”, the tweet read.
The non-conformist party cheered as they optically discerned tangible outcomes i.e. political unrest, to their call against social injustices.
Most partakers returned with utter tranquility to Lafayette park near the White House as the protest ended.
The murder of George Floyd, a black officer marked the commencement to this massive uprising which has moved the entire status quo. People have converged as a force stronger than ever.
A video came out showing a white police officer kneeled on George for nearly eight minutes. Despite his plea, the officer didn’t move. He has, thus, been charged for murder.
The monument has remained controversial for the longest time. Activists have sweated over this issue but they needed the federal government’s approval.
