The mayor of Chicago has openly vowed to refuse any media-related interviews with white reporters.
Lori Lightfoot recently went about announcing how she would stick to giving journalists of color her stories regarding her two-year tenure in office, explained local reports.
“I intend to grant one on one interviews to all of the minority journalists as a means of protesting the lack of diversity situated in the Windy City Press corps,” she explained.
For those who may not be aware, Lori Lightfoot holds the title of being the first-ever Black woman as well as an openly gay individual that was elected to run the city. But she shocked plenty of people with her recent decision and comments on the subject of color via an announcement on Tuesday.
Here, she wrote in response to several members of the press who blatantly complained via Twitter how there were shockingly denied any interviews with her, due to their skin color.
“By now, I am sure you may have heard the news that on the occasion of my two-year anniversary of inauguration as the Mayor of this city, I will exclusively grant one on one interviews with journalists of color.” This news came via a formal letter that was provided by the Post recently.
As far as her justification is concerned, the Mayor of Chicago explained how she fought long and hard throughout her life for the sake of diversity and inclusion at every single institution that she was a part of.point 294 |

While the news sounds so daunting and racist to many, a spokesperson on her behalf recently revealed how it was only related to interviews relating to her 2 year anniversary in the office.
