Carl Reiner Passed Away At Age 98

The Dick Van Dyke Show creator and TV legend Carl Reiner passed away at age 98.

Reiner reportedly died of natural causes on Monday night at this home in Beverly Hills.

The legendary entertainer previously said he wanted to “stick around” to see Donald Trump voted out of office.

Reiner first came to prominence during the ‘50s as a regular cast member, and then writer of Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows,” where he won two Emmys in the supporting category.

It is during this time when he met Mel Brooks – and the two went on to have a long-running friendship and comedy partnership.

Inspired by his stint as a comedy writer for Caesar, Reiner created, produced, and wrote The Dick Van Dyke show.

The acclaimed show will go on to win five of the nine Emmy Awards that Reiner would gather over his career.

During the ‘70s and ‘80s, Reiner’s comedic reach embraced film when he directed a string of hit movies, including 1977’s Oh God and 1979’s The Jerk – the move that gave Steve Martin his high profile starring debut.

Reiner and Martin teamed up again on 1982’s Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, 1983’s The Man With Two Brains, and 1984’s All of Me.

In the recent years, Reiner remained active in the entertainment scene.

Since 2000, he has appeared in projects such as Ally McBeal, Parks and Recreation, Two and a Half Men, Hot in Cleveland, and Bob’s Burgers.

He also voiced the character Carl Reineroceros in Toy Story 4, and co-starred in three Ocean’s Eleven films.

In his later years, Reiner was an elder statesman of comedy, respected for his versatility as an entertainer, and became adept at social media.

He was active on Twitter until the last day of his life, and was vocal in his opposition to President Donald Trump.
