A 5-year-old boy from Georgia awoke in the middle of the night with flames in his bedroom.
But the first thing he did was not to panic, and his actions helped a lot to save his entire family.
Noah Woods was one of the eight family members who were asleep in their house in Bartow County, Georgia, on Sunday. When he woke up, a view of smoke and flames filled the bedroom where he and her sister sleeps
So immediately, he got out of bed, grabbed his sister, and jumped out of the house through the only exit available that time, an open window.
But the 5-year old boy didn’t stop there — he went back inside to get their family dog and pulled it to safety. After that, he ran next door to his uncle’s house to call for help. Together, they alerted the rest of the family.
Because of his heroics, Noah Woods is being hailed as an honorary firefighter and will get a rare lifesavers award on Friday.
The Bartow County Fire Department praises Noah’s heroics, with its department chief Dwayne Jamison saying:
“We’ve seen children alert their families before…”
“But for a 5-year-old to be alert enough to do this … that’s pretty extraordinary.”
Jamison told reporters that the fire started with an overloaded electrical outlet in Noah’s bedroom. When the firefighters arrived, they immediately treated Noah and assisted four other family members for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Noah’s grandfather David Woods said in a GoFundMe post:
“By the grace of God, all nine of our loved ones were able to get out of our home…”
“If it wasn’t for Noah, we may not be here today.”
Because of the destruction of their home after the house fire, the family has asked the community for their prayers and help while they try to get back on their feet.
The Bartow County Fire Department will honor Noah on Friday as an honorary Bartow County firefighter and give him a lifesaving award that is usually reserved for professional rescuers.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp also heard about Noah’s heroic actions, and Jamison will read the governor’s letter for Noah at the ceremony on Friday.
Young Noah only showed that being a hero doesn’t really have an age requirement.
