This monumental project began this morning, with enthusiastic individuals taking part from across the state. The painting is carried out with complete assistance from the city. It was also commissioned with great support from the city’s Mayor Muriel Bowser.

To ensure no disturbances with the painting, several crews from Washington D.C.’s Department of Public Works have also cordoned off the street. This way, the project is running smoothly towards its completion.

Many citizens and supporters have expressed their praise for the iconic painting message, across one of the most influential streets in the country. On the contrary, some individuals have termed the project as ‘performative.’

A recent tweet by the D.C. chapter of Black Lives Matter was released in light of the project. It included the following:

‘This is performative and a distraction from her active counter organizing to our demands to decrease the police budget and invest in the community. Black Lives Matter means Defund the police’.

The painting comes just days after Mayor Bowser’s political unrest with the White House. The incident relates to the debate over the security perimeter that’s centered around the president’s home.

Despite the perimeter being greatly reduced yesterday, many officials continue to express their concerns over the President’s recent decision. This involved the deployment of countless federal police officers as well as National Guardsmen over the city.
