Bindi Irwin announced her pregnancy with her new husband Chandler Powell.
The 22-year-old daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin wrote in an Instagram post, “Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021. Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting!”
“It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you. Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter,” she added.
Chandler then took to the comments section and wrote, “You’re going to be the best mother.”
The news comes a week after Bindi celebrated her 22nd birthday at Australia Zoo, wherein she celebrated by feeding the crocodiles alongside Chandler, her brother Robert and mother Terri.
The couple tied the knot in a surprise intimate ceremony in March at the Australia Zoo amid the strict lockdown restrictions.
To comply with COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, ceremony was limited to just a few witnesses, with friends and family unable to join them.
Bindi shared how difficult the decision was to have no guests present at their wedding to “keep everyone safe.”
The couple also revealed that Bindi’s wedding gown, a princess-style gown with a lace bodice and semi-sheer sleeves, was a tribute to her mother’s wedding dress, when she married Steve back in 1992.
“I wanted something very similar because I’ve admired [my mum’s] dress since I was tiny,” she shared.
Bindi and Chandler got engaged July last year at the zoo during her 21st birthday, in which the wildlife warrior shared heartwarming photos to Instagram at the time.
Her award-winning wildlife photographer Robert captured the moment she said “Yes.”
At the time, Bindi revealed that she had no idea that the “most beautiful surprise” was about to take place, neither that her brother was across the park capturing the moment.
