President Joe Biden expressed great sorrow and regret during an interview conducted during the Super Bowl halftime recently.
According to media reports, the president mentioned how there are so many great and qualified African Americans out there that need to be included during the hiring process. Moreover, he spoke about how there needs to be a wider array of diversity when it comes to making decisions regarding NFL coaches.
“You have to go out there and look, there are numerous incredibly qualified African American coaches out there today,” he added. The president’s interview with Westwood One went on air during the Super Bowl halftime.
In the same way, the president also went on referencing Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also the country’s first black as well as first south Asian vice president. And that was when he talked about the significance of what representation truly is in major powerful positions of the country.
Joe Biden explained that he didn’t know how many girls or women he inspired when he picked Harris as vice president because she is now a role model for so many more. “There are hundreds and thousands of women who must believe that they can do that.”
Soon, the president came back to the topic of Black NFL coaches, adding how he was baffled how the officials couldn’t find any Black coaches for the NFL that are qualified because he thinks there are so many and they deserve true titles of embracing professionalism.
This isn’t the first time that anyone has criticized the NFL for lacking diversity. In the year 2003, the whole league came up with a policy that stated that members must interview at least one person who holds diversity for their top management positions. This came in the form of the well known Rooney Rule.
Still, the NFL has only hired a total of two people of color for their leading positions this cycle.
