Beyoncé To Donate $500,000 To Families Facing Eviction

Beyoncé is offering $5,000 grants in an effort to help families who are facing evictions or foreclosure due to the housing crisis brought upon by the pandemic.

According to her website, anyone who is interested may apply starting January 7, 2021, and 100 people will be selected to receive the grants in late January.

“Beyoncé is continuing her heart of support and helping where needed most. Phase Two of the BeyGOOD Impact Fund will now help those impacted by the housing crisis,” the news release states.

“The housing moratorium is set to end on December 26th, resulting in mortgage foreclosures and rental evictions. Many families are impacted, due to the pandemic that resulted in job loss, sickness and overall economy downturn.”

The announcement states that all necessary documents must be submitted to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and that another round will be opened in February.

According to an analysis of Census data by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, around 9.2 million renters who have lost income during the pandemic are behind on rent.

Many of there renters are expected to pay their entire back rent or agree with a payment plan with their landlord as soon as the moratoriums are lifted.

Earlier this year, Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD foundation have donated $1 million to Black-owned small businesses impacted by the lockdown, which has so far provided $10,000 grants to 250 businesses.

The foundation has also partnered with Twitter’s Jack Dorsey to donate $6 million to help mental health and wellness services for essential workers.

She, along with her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, had set up mobile Covid-19 testing sites in their hometown of Houston in May.

“When we were faced with the pandemic caused by COVID-19, BeyGOOD created a plan to make a difference,” the foundation announced.
