A self-centered mother has been jailed after she left her baby and schoolgirl home alone to go clubbing – a selfish act that left the baby soaked in urine and the school girl crying.
Laura Hopkin, 35, from Stoke-on-Trent, England, admitted to the police that she left the children on their own as she was unable to find a babysitter.
A neighbor, whom Hopkin asked to babysit early on, saw her in Pink club in Staffordshire and decided to check on the children when she returned at 4:30am
Since Hopkin locked both doors before she left, the neighbor had to climb through the window and saw the horrific condition the children were in.
When she arrived home at around 6am, Hopkin called the police and lied that she left the children with a friend, but later admitting to her irresponsible act.
Hopkin was already made the subject of a suspended nine-month jail sentence in March 2019 after she administered noxious substance to her ex by pumping insulin into his body.
Now, the Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court jailed Hopkin for 14 months after pleading guilty to two offences of cruelty to a person under 16.
Prosecutor Caroline Harris said decided to go out alone on the eve of October 3 even after the neighbor’s daughter told her twice that the could not babysit for her.
“She got a taxi to Pink regardless. She had a drink and then went home and drank a bottle of wine before going back out,” Harris said.
“She left the children in bed asleep and went out in the early hours and was seen in Pink by her neighbour. She said the children were being looked after.
“The neighbour left at 3.30am and got home an hour or so later. She checked on the defendant’s home and found a light on downstairs. She knocked on the door and the child came to the window. She was crying and shaking. The baby was on the floor on a blanket.”
The child was trying to feed the baby, but she struggled to undo the top on the baby bottle so she poured milk directly from a bottle instead.
