Meg Nagle, a mother of three, sparked an online heated debate after posting a snap of herself breastfeeding her sister’s baby.
In an interview with Little things, Nagle said that she was watching her 4-month-old nephew while her sister —the baby’s mother— was at work.
The infant apparently refused to drink his mom’s breastmilk in a bottle, so Nagle decided to nurse him herself.
Nagle is an international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), and she clarified that she asked her sister’s permission first before breastfeeding her nephew, and her sister agreed.
She explained that after nursing him, the baby fell asleep immediately.
While Nagle did what she thought was right at the time, some people thought her actions were offensive, unacceptable, and disgusting.
Although some people bombarded Nagle’s post with hateful comments, she remained calm and unworried.
Nagle firmly believes that it is important to bring awareness to wet-nursing as this is often the only option to give the child the important nutrients that come from breast milk.
