Chinese health authorities reported Friday that the novel coronavirus ‘ death toll has reached 600 as more Americans are expected to fly back home from the Asian nation into quarantines.
Early Saturday, the US embassy reported that a corona virus-diagnosed American citizen died on February 6 at Jinyintian Hospital in Wuhan, China.The patient was 60 years old and it seems this is the first death from the disease by an American citizen.
On Friday, two chartered planes carrying about 300 Americans from the Chinese town at the corona virus outbreak epicenter arrived at military bases in California and Texas. A few of the Americans from Texas to Nebraska went on.
Five people were evacuated from Wuhan to northern California’s Travis Air Force Base and they all were admitted as they showed symptoms of corona virus, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Friday. They were admitted to an unknown hospital for further tests and will be kept in isolation.
Passengers will be under a 14-day quarantine to prevent the virus from spreading. “Our top priority is to keep the risk to the American public low and we are working on all fronts to do so,” Alex Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services, said.
Passenger evacuation flights stopped on several bases-Travis, Omaha’s Eppley Airfield and San Diego’s Miramar Marine Corps Air Station.
According to The Associated Press, the report of Friday morning mentioned the death toll at 636 in mainland China, and the total number infected at 31,161. The highest number of infected patients outside china are reported in Japan which is 86 whereas one person has died in Hong Kong and one in the Philippines.
2019 Novel Corona virus (2019-nCoV) is a virus known as the cause of respiratory disease outbreak first detected in Wuhan, China. Prematurely on, many of the patients in the outbreak at Wuhan, China reportedly had some connection to a large market for seafood and animals, indicating spreading from animal to person.
In December, the corona virus began to emerge at Wuhan. It has since killed 724 people all over the world, but in China, where this virus has stranded residents as the Chinese government as shut down the transportation and have turned the cities in a quarantine and it has also crippled the world’s second-largest economy.
It has galloped across continents beyond mainland China, infecting tens of thousands of people in 27 countries across the globe.
