August Alsina drops his new song late Saturday night, after Jada Pinkett Smith confirmed her secret relationship with the R&B singer while she was still married to Will Smith, and described her connection as an “entanglement.
”
The new song, which was written by rising songwriter Derrick Milano and collaborated with rapper Rick Ross, seemed to be directly referring to Alsina’s relationship with Pinkett Smith, as it is entitled, “Entanglements.”
Pinkett Smith sat down with her husband for a special edition of her “Red Table Talk” show, which was aired via Facebook on July 10.
“I got into an entanglement with August,” Pinkett Smith shared, repeatedly using the word to describe her connection with Alsina on the show.
When asked to elaborate her answer, Pinkett Smith said, “Yes, it was a relationship, absolutely. I was in a lot of pain and I was very broken.
“Now in the process of that relationship I definitely realized that you can’t find happiness outside of yourself.”
The couple had been “going through a very difficult time” and had broken up when Pinkett Smith started her romantic relationship with the 27-year-old singer.
During the show, the couple also seemed to suggest that Will Smith had his fair share of casual relationships.
“We decided we were going to separate for a period of time,” Will said during the show.
“You go figure out how to make yourself happy, and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy.”
Alsina claimed in a recent interview that he “sat down with Will and had a conversation.”
“Due to the transformation from their marriage to (a) life partnership that they have spoken on several times, and not involving romanticism, he gave me his blessing,” added Alsina.
The song lyrics, as sung by Alsina, included the lines, “The definition of entanglement, it’s when you tangled in the sheets,” as well as “Entanglements, is when you’re gettin’ in too deep.”
Meanwhile, Ross rapped the lines, “Jaded by her beauty, but her reputation real solid.”
