Monday marked the worst nightmare for New York City’s stores, with reports of over 2,330 burglary incidents.
This includes a staggering stolen amount of $750,000 worth of luxury products like fur, from a single store.
New York City is under fire for several days with increasing violence in the form of anti-racism protests.
Reports claim that over 492 looting incidents took place recently on Sunday. As a result, the city was enforced with an 11 pm curfew that carried on to Monday. However, the crime figures alarmingly increased by over five-fold.
The NYPD has arrested nine individuals out of a total of 75 looters. Interestingly, almost all of the crimes have taken place in the Manhattan area.
Further investigations prove that a ring of around 15 to 20 individuals targeted the city’s renowned Henry Cowit store, grabbing fur merchandise worth over $750,000.
The incident was vividly captured at 10:30 pm, by the store’s surveillance cameras.
Also, the looters are seen climbing across the store’s security barrier.Other than that, a giant pharmacy in the close vicinity, Rite Aide Pharmacy, was also raided by opportunists. Here, reports claimed that looters grabbed prescription medication, worth $60,000.
The New York Post has reported many store lootings with named suspects. This includes 20-year-old Hanaya Jones, who is charged with possessing stolen property worth $9000 from Dior. At the same time, 21-year-old Bronx citizen, Julian Cepeda is also charged for burglary of merchandise, worth $1200 from Dolce Gabbana, and $435 from Chanel.
The list contains many more lootings with brands such as Victoria’s Secret, Gucci, Beats, and GStar being included. With that being said, many of the alleged looters that are in police custody, are accused of assaulting the cops. There are dozens more granted with desk appearance tickets.
All demonstrations across the 50 states increased after George Floyd’s death, last Monday. Simultaneously, peaceful protests, in support of ‘Black Lives Matter’ continue to occur.
