Students from a school in Texas are now facing disciplinary action after they were caught playing a racist slave-trading game recently.
Local media outlets spoke about how the students hail from Aledo in Texas and had recently caught the attention of relevant authorities when they began indulging in a game involving pupils of color.
The group of pupils went about their own ways, setting up an entire group chat where they would literally act like they auctioned their fellow classmates of color.
For instance, an example of the students’ shocking behavior entailed how they were selling off Chris for $1.
And that’s because they felt he would be bid for a higher value if only his hair wasn’t so bad, confirmed reports. On April 5th, the school sent out a letter to the pupils’ parents where they brought forward chats like these to the respective parents to bring to attention what was really going on behind the scene.
Aledo’s Independent School District called the chat the perfect example of cyberbullying, which was also racially charged too.
Following a recent protest amongst citizens, the chat has now been changed from cyberbullying to plain old racist. According to a recent report by CNN, the district confirmed how it is disciplining the students for their terrifying behavior.
However, it is still not clear as to what the term discipline meant over here and how exactly they planned on carrying out a punishment that would actually be suitable under these terms and conditions.
Other reports spoke about how the game was conducted through Snapchat via a group chat that came under the title ‘Slave Trade.’ But this wasn’t the only racist chat. Authorities confirmed how there was another chat whose name was very similar to a racial slur.
Currently, an investigation into the matter is taking place with complete cooperation from relevant law enforcement authorities.
