A brother and sister from Wisconsin died together in a car crash on Interstate 95 near Daytona Beach, after an armed carjacking suspect driving the wrong way slammed head-on into their vehicle.
Domynick Milis, 21, and Danycka Milis, 18, of Omro, Wisconsin, were on their way home after watching the Christmas lights at the Daytona International Speedway when the suspect of a carjacking made an illegal U-turn and slammed into their car, killing the siblings instantly.
“Domynick was a very nice young man, a very good soul,” a family friend shared.
“He was just a kind-hearted person who would always help anyone, and Danycka was certainly very much the same.”
Domynick was behind the wheel of the Nissan Rogue and Danycka was in the front passenger seat, while their 13-year-old brother Drake and their 17-year-old cousin Kyley Larsen were also in the SUV.
The two suffered serious injuries and remain hospitalized.
“I can’t make sense of this or wrap my head around the last 20 hours,” the siblings’ mom, Tina Milis shared.
“Domynick and Danycka were the best of friends and I am thankful they had each other on their journey to heaven.”
The 47-year-old suspect from Orlando, whose driver’s license had been revoked since Jan. 14, 2000, was also killed instantly.
As the suspect allegedly fled from police, he turned off his lights, drove at speeds reaching more than 110 miles per hour and eventually made a U-turn into oncoming traffic on the I-95.
Though authorities made an effort to shut the I-95 down, it was tragically too late for the Milis siblings, who had missed their exit while following behind their parents’ vehicle.
“I don’t know what you say to the family, this time of year. They have a great night of Christmas lights and their kids are murdered,” said Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
