Six men accused of raping two young schoolgirls were convicted to a total jail sentence of 55 and a half years.
Usman Ali, Banaras Hussain, Abdul Majid, Gul Riaz and three other defendants were found to be guilty of a total of 10 counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault.
The charges between 1995 and 2007 related to the rape of the two teenagers in the Huddersfield area.
One of the girls claimed that by the time she was 15 years old she was raped by 300 men.
According to prosecutors, the two teens were “systematically groomed and manipulated” by the men who “saw the girls as mere objects, to be used and abused at will.”
Today, The Leeds Crown Court revealed in a hearing that both girls are now suffering from PTSD, while one of the women even had a prolonged battle against depression and bulimia.
This implies a total of 34 people have now been imprisoned following an Operation Tendersea investigation by West Yorkshire Police into child sexual exploitation in the region, with prison sentences totaling over 300 years.
Judge Geoffrey Marson QC explained how men approached girls for their vulnerability and built a trust relationship that allowed ‘ predatory men to commit gross sexual exploitation for their own depraved satisfaction. ‘
The judge said: ‘ A large group of Asian men were committing offences. ‘ Many of those girls are probably never going to recover from the violence they have suffered. ‘
In a witness statement read out to the judge, the survivor said she had kept the violence’ buried’ for 22 years citing another instance where the police’ wasn’t believing.’
The statement went on to say that she was’ let down’ and’ ashamed,’ but after seeing the mugshot of her rapist in a local paper, she was determined to bring retribution to the people who’ ruined her childhood.’
Authorities said the girls were only 13 and 14 years old when the assault started, with one coming to her abusers ‘ attention while she was on a paper round.
The court heard as One of the victims would go missing and return home “heavily under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” often nude on her lower half, and often with severe injuries.
Ali, 34, from Huddersfield, was imprisoned for eight years for two counts of rape and Banaras Hussain, 39, from Shipley, was imprisoned for one count of rape for 9.5 years.
Majid, 36, from Huddersfield, has been jailed on two counts of rape for eleven years. Riaz, 44, from Huddersfield, was jailed for two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault for 15 years. A 36-year-old man was imprisoned for one count of rape for eight years, and a 30-year-old man was jailed for one count of rape for four years.
After the verdict, DCI Richard McNamara of Kirklees District, West Yorkshire Police said: ‘ Today’s sentences handed down to these men represent the depravity of their acts and I hope they can offer some relief to their victims to see them imprisoned.
‘ We hope the girls will all provide all the help they need and we encourage anyone who has experienced sexual harassment to come out and seek assistance.
Michael Quinn, from the CPS, gave a remark ” At the heart of this case are the two victims. They have suffered immensely as a result of their childhood abuse”.
‘ I genuinely hope their abusers ‘ sentences will go some way to help those young women rebuild their lives. Our feelings remain with you. ‘
