US President Joe Biden appears to be on a mission to rid as many policies from the Trump era as possible with his latest being the reversal of Trump’s order to punish monument vandals.
Just recently, Biden revoked Trump’s popular executive order that revolved around punishing all those who choose to vandalize statues or monuments. Moreover, the news comes as the latest string of reversal orders by the president whose administration is well in the line with undoing many more.
Biden also called for the cancelation of the former president’s plans to create a ‘National Garden of American Heroes’ which surprisingly never went on to receive any form of funding, even after its public announcement.
Donald Trump initially ordered the country’s Justice Department to go about prioritizing the prosecution of all those trouble makers who embarked upon the vandalizing act that targeted the country’s federal monuments. This was especially during distressing times of social unrest, right after the death of George Floyd last year, confirmed reports.
Trump released the order in June 2020, where he boldly instructed the following: “The Government shall prosecute to its fullest extent all those who choose to destroy, vandalize, damage, or desecrate any monument, statue or memorial.
A report from Politico boldly explained how Trump spoke about how the statues were not ours alone. Therefore, it’s sad to see people discarding them by fashionable and politically themed passions. “They belong to plenty of generations that come before us as well as those that are yet to be unborn,” he added.
So many statues that date back to the pro-slavery time period and Jim Crow era had been destroyed by individuals who served as protesters that campaigned against the racism being displayed across the US.
In the same way, President Biden went about nixing another executive order by Trump which sought the banning of immigrants that simply could not afford any form of healthcare.
