Authorities in New York City have reportedly arrested one person in connection with the chilling incident involving two Asian women being battered by a hammer this month.
According to local media outlets, the woman arrested was identified as Ebony Jackson, who is a homeless individual. Moreover, cops allege that the shocking arrest took place on Wednesday, right after police were on the hunt down for suspects that were linked with the incident at Hell’s Kitchen.
37-year-old Ebony Jackson was slapped with charges relating to assault as well as the criminal possession of a weapon which resulting in the chilling menace on the 4th of May.
The two victims were reportedly walking down 42nd Street near 9th Avenue when the incident took place, about 8:40 pm. An unknown stranger approached them from nowhere and began yelling at them to take their mask off. And then all of sudden, she revealed her giant hammer and brutally struck them.
The aftermath of her violent behavior caused one woman to suffer severe injuries that were located on the left side of her face, mentioned the New York Police Department. The victim, reported to be 31 years old, also suffered a gash injury on the center of her forehead.
She was rushed to the New York University Langone Hospital where she was treated by medical experts for her injuries.
Currently, investigations into the case are taking place as police try to figure out what made the accused carry out such an act of intense violence and hatred.
As days go by, the number of racially themed attacks has been on the rise in the US, with particular emphasis on anti-Asian bias being seen from across the board.
After the incident went viral, social media was abuzz with many condemning the brutal act and others raising their voice on putting an end to Asian hate.
