An 80-year-old man from Texas was ordered to serve 20 days in jail after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a six-year-old girl multiple times back in 2013.
On Friday, William Ira Wiltse pleaded guilty to two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure.
As part of his plea deal, Wiltse was sentenced to serve only 20 days in jail and ten years of probation.
He will also not have a conviction on his record once he completes the probation period.
Wichita County District Attorney John Gillespie said that the victim’s parents approved of Wiltse’s plea deal, as they did not want their daughter to experience the pain of having to testify in court.
However, they asked the judge to make Wiltse register as a sex offender as part of the punishment.
According to the police report, Wiltse is described as one of the girl’s relatives, but the details of their relationship are not known.
The victim was still in her first grade when she was first molested in March 2013 and was only able to come forward in 2017.
She told police that Wiltse’s advances took place in the bathroom after waking her up late at night, and he would remove her clothes and touch her inappropriately.
On top of his sentence, Wiltse will have to pay a $2,000 fine and $1,965 in court costs, complete 240 hours of community service, and will be banned to own any kind of firearm or ammunition.
He is also banned from having contact with any child less than 18 years of age unless given prior approval, and he must undergo a sexual abuse treatment program.
Indecency with a child by sexual contact is punishable by imprisonment for up to 20 years, while indecency with a child by exposure is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.
