A fatal shooting incident killed an 11-month-old baby girl while injuring two other kids in New York on Sunday evening.
According to local media reports, the 3 young girls were seated in the backseat of their vehicle, while their mother was driving in the front. Therefore, that’s when a gunman inside a vehicle that was passing by, suddenly opened fire. The bullets struck the girls through the back windows of their car, fatally wounding and killing one while leaving the other two injured.
The incident reportedly took place at around 6:51 pm in the evening at Syracuse, confirmed officials.
Moreover, the three young girls were each present in the vehicle’s backseat as their mum drove past the neighborhood in Strathmore.
Investigations into the heartbreaking incident confirmed how the baby who died was just 11 months old while the other two injured were just 4 and 8 years old.The driver and the mum of the two girls injured were identified as Shakema Buckmon.
She had not realized that the girls were struck by the bullets until she stopped at a nearby relative’s home.The investigative Bureau Chief mentioned, “They drove away while the bullets struck their vehicle.
However, the driver had no clue that the passengers inside were struck with bullets until she made a stop at a nearby home. ”After realizing the grave situation at hand, the mum again rushed them over to the nearby Upstate Hospital, where the girls were treated for their injuries by medical experts. Unfortunately, the 11-month-old baby girl passed away soon afterward, confirmed authorities.
The mum of the two girls explained how she was on her way towards a grocery store on a Sunday evening and that’s when the shooting took place.
“I tried to save my baby cousin but it was too late,” she cried helplessly.
The young victim was identified as Dior Harris with her grieving mum calling her a playful child who was so full of life.
