A mother has revealed that she will miss breastfeeding her 9-year-old daughter.
Sharon Spink, the mother of the 9-year-old girl, claimed that it is absolutely normal to breastfeed her daughter, Charlotte, even in primary school also, it has made a lifelong bond between them.
Sharon said it almost took a decade of breastfeeding, but despite that, she is really happy that Charlotte made her own decision to stop back in September.
The mum from Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, supports natural term weaning, insists that her daughter is healthy and hardly gets ill thanks to the nourishing properties of ‘mummy milk’ because breast milk boosts the immune system.
Sharon and Charlotte have a really strong bond, and Sharon claims that it is because of breastfeeding for so long.
Sharon said that she used to feed three times a day when Charlotte was five years old, but it was reduced to just once a month. Sharon further said, “She told me she would stop when she was 10, which will be in April next year, but it seems to have come to a natural end earlier, although I would have allowed her to continue for as long as she wants to.”
The mother of the 9-year-old child said that with Charlotte- it was about security. She added, children find a lot of comfort in the breast, and as they age, the more it becomes about comfort instead of nutrition.
Furthermore, she said that she intended to breastfeed Charlotte after having difficulties breastfeeding with her older children, the 30-year-old Kim, the 28-year-old Sarah, and the 12-year-old Isabel.
Sharon mentioned she had been called every name under the sun. She had been told that what she is doing is child abuse; she had also been called a pedophile and a freak.
Nevertheless, the reaction she gets from within the breastfeeding community is one of support; she got a lot of positive comments, including Sharon’s family and friends, who are also very supportive of her decision.
Now, she wants to emphasize the fact that mums are too scared to admit they are breastfeeding older children.
Sharon continued, she is sure it is more common than people think, but mums are too scared to admit it because other people do not understand that breastfeeding older children is normal.
Sharon Spink called attention to support mums.
