The Church of Satan officially approves Lil Nas X’s ‘devil shoes’.
After releasing Montero (Call Me By Your Name) music video, Lil Was X also released a pair of custom sneakers.
The rapper’s ‘Satan Shoes’ is a collaboration with art group MSCHF. The shoes are made up of a modified Nike Air Max 97s, a pentagram, a drop of human blood, and a dark bible verse.
Since its release, Nike released a statement and clarified that they had no relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF, adding that they may sue the art group for going ahead with the project without obtaining authorization.
“We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF,” Nike said in a statement. “Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them.”
While the rapper didn’t impress Nike, he did earn the approval of the Church of Satan.
According to TMZ, David Harris —magister for the Church of Satan— has shown full support for the shoes.
Harris said that Satanists were impressed by ‘the way Lil Nas X is turning against religion to market his customized Nike Air Max 97 shoes’.
Harris told TMZ that Lil Nas X is basically giving the middle finger to those who said he’d burn in hell for his sexuality and added and that the Church of Satan applauds him for ‘living life on his own terms and being his honest self’.
The Church of Satan was founded by author and musician Anton Szandor LaVey and on the contrary, does not worship Satan at all.
Instead, the church is in fact opposed to all spirituality and ideas of the supernatural, and is more focussed on atheism, libertarian ideals, and living life as your true self, The Independent reported.
Lil Nas X has been publicly defending his devilish music video and controversial shoes following a backlash from critics.
