Barack Obama made some surprising confessions on Bruce Springsteen’s recent podcast on Monday.
According to media reports, the former US president revealed to the world how he took racial slurs very seriously. Moreover, he recalled an incident where he went as far as breaking his basketball teammate’s nose using his fist. And that was because his classmate used a particular racial slur during their locker room session in middle school.
The former US president talked about the incident in detail and mentioned how this was the first time ever where he openly discussed such a private issue with the general public. Moreover, the 59-year-old also opened up on a number of other personal matters with rock star Bruce Springsteen by his side.
“Listen when I was in school, I had a friend. We played basketball together,” Obama confessed on Bruce’s new ‘Renegades: Born in the USA for Spotify.
Obama added how one time that boy called him a c—n but that didn’t go down too well, explained the 59-year-old. “First of all, there are no such things in Hawaii. Obama also added how the boy probably didn’t even know the meaning of the word that he was using.
And the next thing you know, he popped him in the face and broke his nose using his mighty fist. In addition, Obama gave his fellow teammate a final warning where he mentioned, “Don’t you ever call me something like that again.”
After hearing the jaw-dropping story, Bruce Springsteen was surely appalled by Obama’s great courage at such a young age. In fact, he praised him for standing up for his rights by saying, ‘Well Done.’
Although Obama did talk about such an incident briefly in his memoir of 1995, this was the first time where he revealed the intricate details of the incident publicly. The podcast was basically centered around politics, race, as well as Obama’s family.
