A mother holding her 5-year-old daughter jumped from the roof of a 13-story building in New York City on Sunday.
The mother reportedly jumped from the structure on W. 53rd Street near 11th Ave in Manhattan at around 1:30 pm.
Police officers rushed to the scene after receiving reports about two bodies on the ground.
The mother and her young daughter were found “unconscious and unresponsive with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated height.”
They were rushed to Mount Sinai West hospital where they both passed away, the New York Police Department told Daily Mail.
Sergeant Edward Riley said that “no criminality is suspected at this time.”
One tenant told the New York Post: “It really shook me up that it happened. It’s very, very disturbing.”
Residents and cops said the mother did not live in the New York City building but was only visiting someone when she went to the roof and jumped with her daughter.
It is not yet known who she was visiting but the woman is believed to have lived in Prospect Heights.
The investigation is ongoing.
“I’m so sorry! This is a sad situation and the truth will come to the family someday I just ask God to forgive and we should do the same! We should not judge…..” one person said.
“For anyone that needs to hear this, YOUR CHILD CAN LIVE ON WITHOUT YOU, PLEASE DONT IMPOSE YOUR CHOICE UPON THEM! LET THEM LIVE! Rest in paradise to the little one..,” another wrote.
“They’ll probably find out that she was in the midst of some custody battle and decided she would make sure he never got the child. People are sick! As a mother, I just can’t imagine putting a child through that terror,” a third added.
