President Donald Trump is set to travel to the US-Mexico border on Tuesday as he continues to face calls to resign following his supporter’ siege of the Capitol.

He will travel to the town of Alamo, Texas, to mark the completion of 400 miles of border wall, as well as his administration’s efforts to reform the nation’s broken immigration system.

The visit marks Trump’s first public appearance since the addressed a crowd near the White House on Wednesday, and his final trip as president.

In 2016, Trump’s campaign for presidency focused extensively on his desire to build a border wall.

Although he promised that Mexico would pay for the wall, the US taxpayers ended up paying for it instead.

The government built hundreds of miles of fencing as high as 30 feet, with most of the wall went up in areas with smaller barriers.

The Trump administration prioritized areas where the wall could be built quickly, blasting hills and bulldozing national wildlife refuges and American Indian lands.

Most of the wall was built this year, as Trump sped up the timeline for construction as the election loomed.

Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller, who is one of his remaining allies, lauded the President’s upcoming visit to the southern border wall.

“Trump to visit U.S.-Mexico border to laud border wall,” he tweeted with a thumbs-up emoji and a link that details the trip.

While he makes his trip, Democrats will move forward with holding a vote on impeachment as early as Wednesday.

The president has taken the brunt of the blame as his supporters stormed the US Capitol last week, with both Democrats and Republicans claiming his words incite the violence.

Many of his closest allies have abandoned him, including Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, who is married to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
