The girl has been sent to jail for five months and has to pay back the money people donated.
People donated more than £8000 and sympathized with her, but Standen couldn’t fool people for long, and eventually, everyone realized that she is lying.The woman from Widnes, Cheshire, successfully gathered people’s compassion by telling a fake story that she has just two months to live.
The cunning lady would provide regular updates to social media users regarding her treatment and shaved her head to strengthen the claims.
She fabricated another story and said it is her wish that her dad Derek, a cancer patient, could walk her down the aisle before she dies.
Unfortunately, the father died before her wedding day, but a video message recorded by him was played at the event.
The fraudster gave a flawless speech after her dad’s message was played and cracked some jokes too.
The mother and brother got upset upon listening to the father’s labored words, but Standen laughed throughout the event.
The couple flew to Turkey for a honeymoon after the wedding. People started questioning as they saw her condition after marriage.Eventually, during a call with friends, she admitted that she had lied.
The friends recorded the call and posted it on social media as they felt betrayed and devastated.The woman appeared in court on Tuesday, December 22, and was pleaded guilty.
She is sentenced to 5 months in prison and has to pay back to the local businessman who donated £2000. Standen is embarrassed and feels sorry for what she has done.
