A Connecticut woman arrested and charged with six counts of cruelty to animals after police found multiple animals in her home.
Hamden Police Department is currently holding 59-year-old Donna Scirocco in lieu of a court-ordered $5,000 bond.
According to an email sent by Captain Ronald Smith, Scirocco’s arrest was connected to the search of a home on Blue Hills Avenue in October.
Members of the Hamden Animal Control Division and animal control units from the State of Connecticut, Cheshire, East Haven, North Haven and Southbury executed the warrant.
“Upon entering the residence, animal control officers were greeted by 2 large rats,” the press release reads.
“After conducting a thorough and comprehensive search, officers seized 26 cats, 6 dogs, 2 caged squirrels and an owl.”
Among those found were 3 deceased animals, which includes two cats and a woodchuck.
Officers also found that one of the dogs was “clinging to life,” and “(t)axidermic animals were found inside of the residence.
The animals were taken to Mount Carmel Veterinary Hospital, North Haven Animal Hospital and Ridgehill Animal Hospital.
All rescued animals received treatment and vaccinations at the facilities, while necropsies were conducted on all deceased animals.
Meanwhile, Quinnipiac Valley Health District officials declared Scirocco’s home as “uninhabitable.”
She is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden on February 5, 2021.
