Influencers filling their teeth to achieve a perfect smile may need dentures when they reach their 40’s.
Cosmetic teeth procedures are common all over the world. It is much cheaper in countries like Turkey and relatively costly in the US. Celebrities and social media influencers often travel abroad to achieve a perfect smile.
Most of the stars with substantial social media following get the treatment for free in exchange for promoting their business. Dentists urge people to think twice before making any such decision as it could be a disaster in the future.
Cosmetic teeth procedures are trending in the influencers’ world – Many social media stars like Tana Mongeau, Jeffree Star, and Gigi Gorgeous had smile makeovers.
Tik Tok is full of people posting videos about their smile transformation experience.
They show their shaved down shark teeth and then their newly transformed teeth, which they call “veneers. ”“These are not veneer preparations; these are crown preparations. Know the difference before you get any such treatment, as it can cause irreparable damage. You will have dentures at the age of 40,” said Dr. Emi Mawson.
Dentists are worried that the younger generation has no proper understanding of the difference between veneers and crowns. The lack of knowledge can cause catastrophic consequences for their teeth in the future. In veneers, teeth are shaved down to half a millimeter maximum. Whereas in crowns, at least two millimeters of teeth get shaved off. Dentists think it is not a preferable treatment for individuals with healthy teeth.
Dentists say aggressive crown preparation for no reason at a young age will cause permanent damage. Veneers and crowns are both semi-permanent measures, and they need to be replaced every ten years. On average, veneers cost $250-$1500 per tooth, while the crown will cost almost $20000 per treatment.
Once the teeth are shaved down, there is no way back as it cannot be undone. Dentists are not happy doing crown treatment on healthy teeth as it can compromise the tooth’s nerve.
