After four days of vote counting, Joe Biden won the presidential elections on November 7, 2020.
Biden gets 270 electoral votes and chooses Kamala Harris as his vice president. After claiming the victory, Ms. Harris and Bidden addressed the nation in Wilmington, Delaware.
Kamala Harris has the honor to be the first woman vice president of the US.
Also, she is the first South-Asian who gets this opportunity.
During her victory speech, Harris was dressed in a whole white suit. The white outfit was to pay tribute to women’s suffrage of 100 years after the constitution granted them the right to vote.During the historical speech, Harris paid tribute to all the Asian, Black, and White women who had made this day possible. Harris remembered her mother and said that she is sure that her mother wouldn’t have even dreamt of her daughter getting this role. Harris’ mother migrated to the US from India at the age of 18.
The newly elected vice president acknowledged the contributions and efforts of all the women who had and who are raising their voices for Black women.
She admitted that this group of women is often neglected, even though they are an integral part of democracy.
Harris said that she is the outcome of the struggle and determination of their vision, and she owes so much to all of them. She showed great hope and positivity regarding the future and said this would motivate so many other girls.“I may be the first one to get this position, but I assure you that I’m not going to be the last one,” said Harris.
She declared the US as the “country of possibilities.
” She showed her confidence and hope in the US’s children and gave them the message to dream big and touch the skies. She assured her support at every step of their journey.Harris thanked and acknowledged the goodness of President Joe Biden for showing his trust in her. It is not easy to break a taboo that is being followed for decades. She said that choosing an Asian woman as vice president is evidence of Biden’s progressive approach.
