One MIT grad is revealing how he couldn’t understand a first grader’s math problem.
He reveals how times how times changed over the years and so have teaching styles. Moreover, it’s almost like the math today is nothing like what it was in the past.
Saying that he went to school ‘many years ago,’ he goes on explaining how math in the past related to memorizing time tables. It was a weird way of learning but it is what it is. However, today’s it’ a whole different ballgame altogether.
It’s all about school level math sums today. Unbelievingly, they not only stump the kids but their parents too. The first grader math story went viral, coming from a student’s math workbook. Above all, he was only in first grade.
Putting plenty of formulas and logical thinking skills to the test, the frustrated grad from MIT gave up. As a result, they decided to share it with social media users on Twitter. Therefore, they hoped the world would come up with the answer.
However, it seems like it’s not the easiest problems of them all. And plenty of users are sitting there, scratching their heads. But you can’t help but notice the bright yet amusing ideas that some people are coming up with.
What makes this math sum so interestingly difficult is the context. It’s hard to understand what they’re actually asking the student to do. ‘What is a math drawing?’ Moreover, how do you make pictures equal with the drawings?’
Yes, as crazy as it sounds, that’s what they’re expecting a first grader to do. So can you find a solution to this intensely bizarre situation?
Well, if not, here’s a sigh of relief of what they actually want. In short, they need ‘math drawings’ which are apparently connected with an equal sign. The end result should give you ‘number sentences.’ Yes, we were just as stumped as you might be.
When done correctly, the first image should correlate to the second one in such a manner that there’s enough room to place an ‘equal sign,’ in between.
Meanwhile, Twitter went bonkers with the whole concept. There were questions raised left and right with some pretty hilarious comments too. One person asked whether or not you’re supposed to draw the exact same image in the second fruit basket.
Others claimed it was more of a psychology experiment than an actual math problem. There was even one comment that exclaimed how the student didn’t use enough question marks for such a weird sum.
Whether you answered it correctly or not, one thing is for sure. This sum seems to be stumping plenty of users around the globe!
