At 5 pm, Monday in an apartment building in Wellington Street, Collingwood, two cops stopped a 21-year old woman with red hair for not wearing a face mask.
The arrest quickly turned violent as both parties had a spat.
The male cop tried to strangle the woman with his hands and she resists him by hitting his chest and with her hands. Meanwhile, the woman cop tries to stop the girl from doing that asking her to let go of the cop’s vest.
A shocked bystander started filming this aggressive and violent attack on the civilians and shared it on the social media which erupted outrage on the cops.
According to the new law of Melbourne, it is mandatory for all the citizens to wear a face mask before stepping outside their homes and a $200 fine can be given to them on violating the rules. The young girl, however, was not complying with the rules.
During the entire video, the woman is seen shouting “he is chocking me” but the cop continues to force her. When the cop retaliated in the beginning, she also said “what the f***?” and “get the f*** off me”.
The officer soon pushing her to the wall removing her hands from his vest while the girl fights back and hits him on his chest. He then pulls the woman to the ground to arrest her and sits on her so she does not get up and fight back.
In another video, five backup cops are seen surrounding the woman. She is charged with police assault and breaking the safety measurements implemented to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The woman is not, however, fined because she has a medical exemption for not wearing a mask. She was given bail and the hearing will soon happen in a court.
