An employee at a Dunkin’ location in Chicago was fired and arrested Friday after an Illinois State Trooper discovered spit in his drink.

According to Illinois State Police, 25-year-old Vincent Sessler was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, reckless conduct and battery to a peace officer.

A state trooper from Chicago bought a large black coffee on Thursday evening at the chain’s Garfield Ridge location, and removed the lid to allow to cool the hot beverage.

That was when the state trooper saw a “large, thick piece of mucus which was later confirmed to be saliva” floating inside.

It was later confirmed via surveillance video that an employee spit in the cup before pouring coffee and served it to the trooper.

“This is outrageous and disgusting,” said director of the Illinois State Police Brendan F. Kelly.

“The men and women of the Illinois State Police put their heart and soul into protecting the lives and rights of all people in this state every day. They deserve better than this insulting and dangerous treatment.”

Dunkin’ spokesperson said that the issue was investigated immediately after the incident, and Sessler was identified as the perpetrator and was terminated from his job.

He was then arrested without incident about 12:50p, on Friday.

“The type of behavior reported to us is inconsistent with the brand’s values,” the spokesperson said.

“Dunkin’ has a deep appreciation for police officers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe, and the franchise owner has reached out directly to the officer to apologize for the experience.”

According to court records, Sessler has been released from the Chicago Police Department’s 8th District after posting bond and is due to be back in court on August 13.

Meanwhile, Kelly banned the ISP employees from shopping at the Dunkin’ location where the incident happened “for their safety.”
