The 64-year old Seoul mayor Park Won-soon went missing as he did not appear at his office today.
As his daughter informed the police department about her father’s mysterious disappearance, hundreds of cops and police dogs were dispatched to find him.
The search, which was soon joined by fire rescuers, resulted in his dead body in hills in northern Seoul. The search mission continued for 7-hours and finally found the dead body around the restaurant and the banquet hall in the hills.
Park Won-soon was recently alleged for sexually harassing one of his secretaries. The victim filed a complaint against him on Wednesday in the police department stating that the non-consensual physical contact started in 2017.
While talking to the media on the issue, one of the police officers said that a security camera at the hills captured Park around 10:53 am. Six-hours later, his daughter contacted the police to complain about his disappearance.
Mayor’s cell phone was also detected in the hills of Seongbuk-dong in Northern Seoul on Thursday, only one day after allegations of sexual harassment. According to The Korea Herald, his daughter told the police that her father had left words similar to a will and left home and went unreachable.
An official from The Seoul Metropolitan government confirmed that the mayor did not make it to his office and canceled all of his meetings. He only had a call with the presidential office in his Seoul City Hall office. Though the motives behind his absence on Thursday are yet unknown.
According to reports, the Seoul City Hall has witnessed quite a large number of female professionals going through sexual harassment. A TV program was to be aired on Thursday covering such allegations claimed by a couple of women.
Nonetheless, the police department and mayor’s office both chose not to comment on the matter.
