Moms all over the internet share their bikini selfies in efforts to promote body positivity, thanks to a simple Instragram post by Jennifer Lopez.
The 50-year-old multi-awarded singer and actress shared a photo of herself through Instagram wearing a white string bikini, captioned, “Relaxed and recharged.”
This lead to an idea thanks to Maria Kang, founder of the No Excuse Mom fitness community, and she shared her own bikini selfie stating how J.Lo inspired her.
In her post, she states that moms to be accountable to one’s self, and started the hashtag #jlochallenge, and encouraged others to post their bikini selfies as well.
“Own your story. Create your own accountability. Don’t make excuses for your inaction. If she can do it, if I can do it, if thousands of working moms who come in all sizes, shapes and ages can do it – then YOU CAN DO IT!!!”
Mothers has since then shared their own photos using the same hashtag, showcasing how body positivity more on accountability and acceptance, and not about ripped abs and toned muscles.
One of thousand of women who participated in the challenge is Virginie Royer.
She shared, “I have 4 amazing kids, I am 48. I learned how to love myself and accept myself. I am not perfect, I embrace my imperfections, I am me. I decide to be happy no matter what.”
Another mom who took on the challenge wrote, “If Jennifer Lopez can do it, we can do it! Regardless of age, size or shape, we CAN be healthy!”
Her post states, “This is 32, a body that created 3 wonderful kids, that has gone through 1 c-section, appendicitis & emergency lacerated intestine from a horrible car accident. Exercise and being active has saved my life.”
Even dads are inspired by the challenge too, as one state in his post, “I saw something that could have easily been taken for vanity, and instead, it has sparked a positive response, not only of accepting where you are in the journey, but just how far you can go!”
