The United Kingdom is all set to undergo a historic transformation as Black Lives Matter activists compile a leading list of 60 racist statues.
The famed monuments are a part of a target ‘hit list,’ compiled by BLM supporters, demanding their removal.
Reports reveal how the activists want all those statues that ‘celebrate slavery as well as racism’ removed. This event comes just days after the historic Edward Colston statue was destroyed.
Similarly, several of the UK’s famed personalities are also included such as imperialist Cecil Rhodes, and slave traders Sir John Cass, Robert Milligan, William Beckford, and Sir Thomas Guy. BLM activists further explained how the removal of such statues will allow Britain to come to terms with the truth of its past.
Simultaneously, London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, has also called for the complete removal of all statues that represent the slave trade and racism. Reports confirm the Mayor terming most of the capital’s landmarks as ‘largely Victorian.’ He further added the need to include ‘people of color.’
Black Lives Movement supporters have created the list in the form of an online interactive map, termed as ‘Topple the Racists.’ Hence, it contains 60 monuments, statues, and plaques, spread across 30 towns as well as countless cities of the UK.
The BLM activists have also allowed the public to add more names to the already giant list, including famed personalities like King James II, Sir Francis Drake, Oliver Cromwell, amongst many others.
Today, supporters of the BLM movement will gather at the statue of Cecil Rhodes in Oxford, as part of the famous ‘Rhodes Your Next’ campaign.
In addition, the London Mayor has launched his own campaign, promising to review as well as improve London’s diversity, through the capital’s landmarks.
This historic step will transform the UK into one of the most diverse destinations of the world. What do you say about it?
