Cannon 5-year old boy was shot in the head on Sunday, August 9, in his front yard Wilson, North Carolina by his neighbor.
His two sisters witnessed the horrific incident.
25-year-old Darius Sessoms, who lived right next door to Cannon’s father, approached the 5-year old boy with the gun when he was playing in his front yard with his sister, and shot him in his head.
After the incident, Cannon was rushed to the hospital, but sadly he was pronounced dead.
Cannon, who was all ready to start his kindergarten on Monday, was brutally murder by the 25-year-old man outside his own home in front of his two sisters aged seven and eight.
After Cannon’s death, his grandmother Gwen Hinnant after getting permission from cannon’s parents, set the fundraiser page to get help from people to arrange a funeral. Initially, the target was 5,000$ but was able to raise over 318,000$.
Since then, people are taking his story on social media with the hashtag #SayHisName to raise awareness about the incident and criticizing media for not covering the story as it should be.
Some people have shown their disgust on the matter that the media is not following the story of how Cannon was brutally murder.
One person tweeted: ‘I can’t stop thinking about what happened to Cannon Hinnant. An innocent child murdered right in front of his sisters in front of their home. Why isn’t this national news? Where is the justice for Cannon?’
Cannon’s funeral was held on 13th August at the Shingleton Funeral Home, where all his family and relatives said their last goodbyes.
Candlelight vigil for cannon was supposed to be held on 14th August at Wilson County Courthouse. It got canceled, but it didn’t stop people from gathering at the steps of Wilson County Courthouse in support of the little boy.
Darius Sessoms’ court hearing is set for August 25.
