Three People Died, Dozens Left Injured On 100-Vehicle Pile Up In Wyoming


Three people were killed and dozens injured after falling snow caused a pileup across Wyoming major interstate on Sunday.

The accident happened in the early evening hours at Interstate 80, near the city of Rawlins, about 180 miles west of Cheyenne.

According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation, the highway is now closed due to winter conditions, and will remain closed until Tuesday.

The spokesperson for the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins said in an interview that they took in 30 people to the emergency room.

They called in three extra doctors and set up a temporary patient holding area in the cafeteria as officials expect more injured people to arrive.

Youtuber David Cuarezma captured the incident while he and his companion drive through the pile up.

He described the Interestate-80 as the “most dangerous road in United States.”

According to the video, the pile up started from a parked truck, but seems everyone from the video agreed that the weather caused this unfortunate event.

Some of the drivers on the scene went out to help other drivers free up those who were trapped by the pile-up.

Injured animals that were originally being transported can be seen walking around the snow-covered highway.

The National Weather Service issued winter weather alerts in the region around the time of the incident, citing to expect two to six inches of snow.

They also predict that snow driven by wind up to 50 mph will continue to affect travel.

Four miles away from this incident, another smaller pile-up occurred.

Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jason Mower confirmed the 40-vehicle pile up injured at least seven people, with one left in critical condition.

He also said that in the larger pileup, four people are assumed dead, but the Wyoming Highway Patrol could only confirm three casualties.
